☁️ Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

A Common Data Environment (CDE) is the agreed single source of information for a project or asset, used to collect, manage and share every information container (models, drawings, documents, data) through a controlled process. ISO 19650 defines four container states (Work in Progress, Shared, Published, Archived), plus naming, revision and status metadata that the CDE must enforce. These platforms sit between authoring tools such as Revit or Archicad and the site, client and operations teams, and they provide the audit trail that contracts and information protocols rely on.

What is a Common Data Environment (CDE) and why does every BIM project need one?

FoundationBasics

A CDE is the agreed single source of information for a project or asset, used to collect, manage and share every information container such as models, drawings, documents and datasets through a controlled process. ISO 19650-1 defines it as both a technology solution and a workflow. Without one, teams exchange files by email and file shares, nobody knows which revision is current, and there is no audit trail for who approved what. The CDE gives each container a status, a revision and a state, and records every transition so the information can be trusted contractually.

Certification: Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

What are the four information states in an ISO 19650 CDE?

FoundationStandards

ISO 19650-2 defines Work in Progress (WIP), Shared, Published and Archived. WIP is where a task team develops information that only that team can see. Shared is where information is checked and made available to other task teams for coordination and comment, with a suitability code such as S1 to S7. Published is the client-authorised state, usually with an A-series code, meaning the information is accepted for its purpose. Archived keeps a record of every container and transaction for the project and asset lifecycle. A container moves forward only after the check, review and authorise gates defined in the information protocol.

Certification: Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

How does ISO 19650 information container naming work, and what does the CDE do with it?

PractitionerStandards

ISO 19650-2 requires each container to have a unique ID built from agreed fields, and the UK National Annex gives the common pattern Project-Originator-Volume/System-Level/Location-Type-Role-Number, for example PRJ1-ACM-ZZ-01-DR-A-2001. Revision and status are metadata, not part of the name, and are tracked separately by the CDE. A good CDE stores the field codes, validates uploads against the naming rule, rejects non-compliant names and fills metadata columns automatically from the name. Platforms such as Autodesk Docs, Procore Document Management, Dalux Box, Asite and 12d Synergy all offer this validation; SharePoint does not without add-ons.

Certification: Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

What is the difference between a status (suitability) code and a revision code in a CDE?

PractitionerStandards

The status code states what the container is suitable for: S0 is WIP, S1 to S7 are Shared suitabilities such as S2 for information, S3 for review and comment or S4 for stage approval, and A1 to An mean Published and authorised for a stage. The revision code identifies the version, with P01, P02 used for preliminary revisions and C01, C02 for contractual revisions in the UK convention. The CDE increments the revision each time a container is re-shared and changes the status when it moves state. Together they tell a user whether a drawing is current and what they may rely on it for.

Certification: Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

How do the main CDE platforms actually implement the WIP, Shared, Published and Archived states?

ExpertComparison

Few platforms have a literal state field; most map states to folders, permissions and workflows. Autodesk Docs uses a WIP/Shared/Published folder tree with folder-level permissions, a naming standard tool and review workflows that copy approved files into the next folder, with Archived handled through version history. Dalux Box and Viewpoint For Projects provide explicit Shared and Published areas with approval workflows. 12d Synergy uses 01_WIP to 04_Archived folder templates driven by its workflow engine. Aconex and Asite treat state as document status metadata with registers and transmittals rather than folders. Catenda Hub and usBIM.platform provide ISO 19650 workflows on documents while models stay IFC-native. SharePoint has folders only; the transitions must be built with Power Automate or an add-on.

Certification: Common Data Environments & Project Information Management

Which CDE should I choose for my project?

ProfessionalComparison

Start from the contract and the authoring stack. If the appointment requires demonstrable ISO 19650 compliance in the UK, Asite, Autodesk Construction Cloud and Procore hold the BSI Kitemark, and Viewpoint For Projects is widely accepted. If Revit cloud worksharing matters, Autodesk Construction Cloud is the natural choice. For infrastructure with MicroStation and OpenRoads, ProjectWise is the standard. For neutral ownership on megaprojects with many parties, Aconex or Asite. For openBIM-first teams, Catenda Hub, Dalux Box or usBIM.platform keep IFC and BCF native. For contractors who want field, cost and document control together, Procore or Dalux. Always check pricing model: per user (ACC, Trimble Connect), per project with unlimited users (Catenda, Aconex) or by construction volume (Procore).

Where did today's CDE platforms come from?

FoundationHistory

Most began as web extranets around 2000: Aconex in Melbourne (2000), Asite in London (2001), 4Projects in the UK (later Viewpoint For Projects) and Thinkproject in Munich. Newforma Project Center (2004) came from the design side as email and project information management. The term CDE was formalised in the UK's PAS 1192-2 in 2013 and carried into ISO 19650 in 2018. Autodesk moved from Buzzsaw to BIM 360 (2012) and then to Autodesk Construction Cloud (2020), now branded Autodesk Forma. Bimsync became Catenda Hub, and Oracle bought Aconex in 2018, Trimble bought Viewpoint in 2018, and Asite acquired 3D Repo in 2022.

What roles work in a CDE day to day, and what skills are expected?

PractitionerCareer

Document controllers administer registers, naming compliance, transmittals and distribution. Information managers (appointing party side) define the information protocol, container naming, CDE workflow and check that deliverables meet the EIR and BEP. BIM coordinators use the CDE to federate models, run clash reviews and manage issues through BCF. Project administrators manage users, roles, folders and permissions. Expected skills are ISO 19650 knowledge, platform administration on at least one major CDE, understanding of IFC and BCF, and vendor certifications such as Procore Certification, Aconex Accredited, Asite Academy diplomas or Bluebeam Certified Professional.

What do the BSI Kitemark, the TÜV SÜD attestation and buildingSMART certification each prove about a CDE?

ExpertStandards

They certify different things. The BSI Kitemark for BIM software assesses that the software's functionality supports the ISO 19650 framework, plus security-minded processes, user support, development practice and organisational resilience; Asite (2021, renewed 2026), Autodesk Construction Cloud (certificate KM 823075, issued August 2025) and Procore state they hold it. TÜV SÜD's attestation, obtained by Thinkproject's CONCLUDE CDE in 2024, is a conformity assessment against ISO 19650-1, -2 and -3. buildingSMART certification is about correct IFC import or export against a schema and exchange definition, which is what ACCA claims for usBIM.platform. None of them certifies that your project is compliant; that depends on how the platform is configured and used.

What is the difference between Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build and BIM Collaborate inside Autodesk Construction Cloud?

FoundationAutodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma)Basics

Docs is the CDE layer: folders, permissions, naming standards, reviews, transmittals and issues, included with every ACC product. Build adds construction management tools such as RFIs, submittals, forms, schedules, cost and quality. BIM Collaborate adds design collaboration and model coordination with clash detection, and BIM Collaborate Pro adds Revit, Civil 3D and Plant 3D cloud worksharing. In 2026 Autodesk placed the suite under the Autodesk Forma brand, so vendor pages now say Forma Data Management for Docs, Forma Build and Forma for Model Coordination, but the modules and the data are the same.

How do I set up an ISO 19650 folder structure and naming standard in Autodesk Docs?

PractitionerAutodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma)Workflow

Create top-level folders for WIP, Shared, Published and Archived under Project Files, then set folder permissions so task teams have edit rights only in their own WIP folders and view rights in Shared and Published. In Project Admin, define the Naming Standard with the agreed fields (project, originator, volume, level, type, role, number) and enable it on the Shared and Published folders so non-compliant uploads go to a holding area. Add custom attributes for status and revision, and build review workflows that copy or move approved files from WIP to Shared and from Shared to Published. Autodesk publishes an Autodesk University article and project templates for this setup.

About Autodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma) · Certification

Is Autodesk Construction Cloud certified for ISO 19650?

ProfessionalAutodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma)Standards

Yes in the sense of the BSI Kitemark for BIM software. BSI issued certificate KM 823075 to Autodesk on 28 August 2025, valid to 27 August 2028, covering Autodesk Construction Cloud for common data environment, model coordination and clash detection, and design and construction management functions. The Kitemark assesses software functionality plus security-minded approach, user support, development practice and organisational resilience. Autodesk also added ISO 19650 workflow features and EU data residency in 2023. The certificate does not make a project compliant by itself; the naming standard, folder permissions and review workflows still have to be configured to the project's information protocol.

How can I automate reporting and integrations from Autodesk Construction Cloud?

ExpertAutodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma)Automation

Three routes exist. Autodesk Platform Services (APS) exposes REST APIs for Data Management, Issues, RFIs, Submittals, Model Coordination and account administration, secured by OAuth; this is how most custom integrations and partner apps are built. The Data Connector lets an account admin schedule bulk extracts of project data to CSV or Power BI without coding. Autodesk Construction Cloud Connect is the no-code workflow automation service for syncing with systems such as SharePoint, Procore or ERP tools. Webhooks fire on file and issue events so external systems can react immediately. Note that BIM 360 legacy endpoints still exist but Autodesk changed cloud model download workflows in February 2026, so integrations should target current ACC endpoints.

About Autodesk Construction Cloud (Autodesk Forma) · Certification

Is BIM 360 being retired, and what replaces it?

FoundationAutodesk BIM 360History

Autodesk states there are currently no plans to retire the BIM 360 next-generation platform, but no new features are being added and new projects should start on Autodesk Construction Cloud, now branded Autodesk Forma. The Classic product BIM 360 Glue reaches end of life on 31 July 2026, after which its data is not accessible, and Autodesk provides a data transition tool to copy Glue models into the Files tool. BIM 360 Docs became Autodesk Docs, BIM 360 Design became BIM Collaborate Pro, and BIM 360 Build and Field became Autodesk Build.

About Autodesk BIM 360 · Certification

My Revit models are still on BIM 360 Docs. What changed in 2026 and how should I migrate?

ExpertAutodesk BIM 360Troubleshooting

Autodesk changed the workflow for downloading Revit cloud models from BIM 360 Docs and Autodesk Docs from 15 February 2026, after a transition period that began in February 2025, so scripts and add-ins that relied on the old download method need updating to the current APS approach. For migration, Autodesk recommends starting new projects in ACC and using the in-product transition tools to copy project files and models. Cloud workshared Revit models must be re-initiated in the ACC project, so plan the cutover at a model milestone, freeze WIP, publish a final version on BIM 360 and archive it before re-hosting.

How is Procore priced and does every subcontractor need a licence?

FoundationProcoreLicensing

Procore charges an upfront annual fee per product based on the customer's Annual Construction Volume (ACV), the value of construction work run through the platform, rather than per user. This means the general contractor or owner pays, and subcontractors, consultants and other collaborators can be invited without additional seats. Procore does not publish list prices; quotes depend on the modules chosen and the volume band. Procore's own certification training is free to anyone.

About Procore · Certification

How does Procore Document Management support ISO 19650 naming and status?

PractitionerProcoreWorkflow

Document Management is a governance layer on top of Procore's Documents and Drawings tools. It validates file names against a configured naming convention at upload, using OCR and AI to read title blocks and apply metadata such as revision codes, discipline identifiers and status. Files pass through configurable review workflows and their information-container status transitions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit trail. Procore states this capability is backed by BSI Kitemark certification. The Drawings and Specifications tools then link the approved containers to RFIs and submittals.

About Procore · Certification

Can Procore view BIM models and exchange data with Autodesk Construction Cloud or Revit?

ExpertProcoreInteroperability

Procore Models lets users upload and federate IFC, RVT, NWD and NWC files and view them in the browser and on mobile, with the ability to link model elements to RFIs and observations. There is no IFC export or BCF round-trip, so coordination usually stays in Navisworks or ACC and Procore is the field and document system. Integrations through the Procore App Marketplace and the REST API sync drawings and documents with Autodesk Docs, Bluebeam Studio and SharePoint. A common pattern is design coordination in ACC and site execution in Procore, with published drawings pushed from one to the other.

What is ProjectWise and how does it differ from a general document CDE?

FoundationBentley ProjectWiseBasics

ProjectWise is Bentley's engineering content management and project delivery system, now sold within Bentley Infrastructure Cloud. Unlike a generic document CDE it understands CAD and BIM file relationships: it keeps DGN and DWG reference files and Revit links intact, provides managed workspaces that push standards to MicroStation and AutoCAD, and uses check-in/check-out so two engineers cannot overwrite each other. The cloud tiers are Connect for documents and IFC or PDF collaboration, ProjectWise for design application integration and 2D/3D/4D reviews, and the ProjectWise Bundle with a dedicated tenant for up to 21 users.

About Bentley ProjectWise · Certification

What does ProjectWise cost and how is it licensed?

PractitionerBentley ProjectWiseLicensing

Bentley publishes cloud list prices: Bentley Infrastructure Cloud Connect from USD 312 per year, Bentley Infrastructure Cloud ProjectWise from USD 960 per year, and the ProjectWise Bundle at USD 10,440 per year, which includes six ProjectWise and fifteen Connect subscriptions, a Bentley-hosted environment, project delivery workflows and learning resources. Subscriptions are bought through the Virtuosity store, and enterprise licensing is available on request. Training is available through Bentley Learn at learning.bentley.com.

About Bentley ProjectWise · Certification

How do I run ISO 19650 in ProjectWise?

ExpertBentley ProjectWiseStandards

ProjectWise ships an ISO 19650-based configuration, and the ProjectWise Design Integration capabilities in the bundle are pre-configured to it. In practice you define document attributes for the container name fields, status and revision, create workflows with states that correspond to WIP, Shared and Published, and use state-based access control so a task team can edit only in its WIP state. Naming is enforced with document code rules built from attributes, and audit trail and version history cover the Archived state. Reviews of 2D, 3D and 4D models are done in the web review tools or by publishing to an iTwin.

What makes Oracle Aconex different from other CDEs?

FoundationOracle AconexBasics

Aconex is built on a neutral ownership model: each organisation on a project has its own workspace and controls what it shares, and Oracle acts as a neutral host rather than any party owning the platform. It combines a document register with controlled correspondence (Mail), workflows, transmittals, tenders, field inspections and model coordination, all with a permanent audit trail. It is priced per project rather than per user, which suits owners, joint ventures and EPC contractors with large supply chains on megaprojects.

About Oracle Aconex · Certification

How do documents, Mail and workflows relate in Aconex?

PractitionerOracle AconexWorkflow

Documents are registered with metadata such as document number, revision, status and discipline, and each upload creates a new revision in the register. Mail is Aconex's controlled correspondence: typed messages such as RFIs, transmittals and instructions that are numbered, cannot be deleted and can attach registered documents. Workflows route documents through review and approval steps with due dates and outcomes, and the resulting status change is written back to the register. Transmittals formally issue documents to other organisations and create the legal record of what was sent and when.

About Oracle Aconex · Certification

Does Aconex support ISO 19650, and how are states handled?

ProfessionalOracle AconexStandards

Oracle describes the Aconex CDE as based on the ISO 19650 and DIN SPEC 91391 definitions. States are handled through document status and suitability metadata and permissions rather than folders: a document in a task team's own workspace is WIP, sharing or transmitting it to other organisations with an S-series status places it in Shared, and client authorisation with an A-series status makes it Published. The register and Mail history provide the Archived record. Aconex offers an accreditation programme (Aconex Accredited) through Support Central for users and administrators who run these processes.

What is Asite and what modules does it include?

FoundationAsiteBasics

Asite is a cloud platform for information management in the built environment. Its core is the Asite CDE for documents, drawings and models with visual workflows and distribution. Around it sit Asite 3D Repo for federated BIM collaboration, Playbook for configuring information delivery processes, Field for site management, Marketplace for tenders and supply chain, AppBuilder for no-code forms, and add-ons such as Project Financials and Contract Management. It was founded in London in 2001 and is used across the UK, Middle East, India, Australia and the USA.

About Asite · Certification

What does Asite's BSI Kitemark for ISO 19650 mean for my project?

ProfessionalAsiteStandards

Asite first achieved the BSI Kitemark for BIM software in 2021 and renewed it in February 2026. The Kitemark confirms that the software's functionality supports information management to the ISO 19650 framework and that Asite follows security-minded processes, supports users and has resilient development practices. Asite states it is one of only two UK SaaS organisations with the accreditation. For a project it means the platform can be configured for container naming, status codes, state transitions and audit trail without workarounds, but the appointing party's information protocol still has to be implemented in the project's workflows and Playbook.

About Asite · Certification

Is there formal Asite training or certification?

PractitionerAsiteCareer

Yes. Asite Academy delivers classroom, remote, one-to-one, floor-walking, eLearning, webinar and public sessions. End-user courses cover CDE Foundation, administration, visual workflows, tender management, contracts, quality management and technical topics such as AppBuilder and model management. The certification framework has core modules and diploma-level certifications in Project Management, Document Control, Field Management, Information Management, Supplier Relationship Management and App Builder. Pricing of training is not published.

What is Viewpoint For Projects and who uses it?

FoundationTrimble Viewpoint For ProjectsBasics

Viewpoint For Projects is Trimble's cloud CDE for construction documents, drawings, models and tasks, descended from the UK product 4Projects. It provides version control with unlimited storage, permissions, custom workflows for approvals and revisions, a 3D model viewer with BIM tools and a complete audit trail. It is most common with UK main contractors and their document controllers and design managers, and it is sold with tailored pricing as part of the Trimble Construction One portfolio.

About Trimble Viewpoint For Projects · Certification

How are revisions and sign-offs managed in Viewpoint For Projects?

PractitionerTrimble Viewpoint For ProjectsWorkflow

Each container is uploaded to a container folder with metadata including revision, status and classification, and new uploads create new revisions while older ones remain accessible. Workflows are configured per project to route documents through review, comment and approval steps with assigned roles and deadlines, and a document cannot move to a Published area until the workflow completes. Trimble provides a training video on ISO 19650 and classification in the product. Every action is logged in the audit trail, which document controllers export as evidence at handover.

About Trimble Viewpoint For Projects · Certification

Should I use Viewpoint For Projects or Trimble Connect?

ProfessionalTrimble Viewpoint For ProjectsComparison

They solve different problems. Viewpoint For Projects is a document-control CDE with ISO 19650 states, naming, approval workflows and audit trail, aimed at contractual information management. Trimble Connect is a model and file collaboration hub with fast federated 3D viewing, ToDos and releases, priced per user, aimed at coordination between Tekla, SketchUp and field teams. On UK projects it is common to run Viewpoint For Projects as the formal CDE and Trimble Connect for model coordination, publishing approved models from one to the other.

About Trimble Viewpoint For Projects · Certification

How much does Trimble Connect cost and is there a free version?

FoundationTrimble ConnectLicensing

In September 2026 Trimble lists two plans: Pro at USD 349 per user per year and Innovate at USD 499 per user per year on annual billing, with Enterprise custom pricing for teams of 30 or more. A free 30-day trial of Innovate is available; the page no longer shows a permanent free plan. Pro includes the 2D and 3D viewers, comments, tags, file sharing, property sets and the desktop, mobile and Mirror apps. Innovate adds data analysis tools, the Visualizer, the Revit application and Object Manager.

About Trimble Connect · Certification

Which file formats can Trimble Connect view and federate?

PractitionerTrimble ConnectFile formats

Trimble states support for over 45 file types including geospatial data. In practice teams federate IFC as the neutral format, plus DWG and DXF drawings, SketchUp SKP, PDF documents, Tekla TRB and Revit models exported through the Trimble Connect Revit application. Models are combined in the 3D viewer with property inspection, sectioning and measurement, and ToDos can be exchanged as BCF with authoring tools. Because IFC is central, it works well in mixed-software environments.

About Trimble Connect · Certification

Can Trimble Connect be used as an ISO 19650 CDE?

ProfessionalTrimble ConnectStandards

It can hold the Shared state for models and provide an audit trail, releases and permissions, and Trimble markets it as a CDE for construction and geospatial professionals. However it does not enforce information container naming, suitability codes or gated state transitions the way Viewpoint For Projects, Asite or Autodesk Docs do. For a formal ISO 19650 appointment, use Trimble Connect for model federation and issue exchange and keep the contractual document control in a dedicated CDE, or add the discipline through folder conventions and manual metadata.

What is Catenda Hub and was it previously called something else?

FoundationCatenda Hub (formerly bimsync)Basics

Catenda Hub is a cloud openBIM CDE developed by Catenda, a Norwegian company founded in 2009 inside the buildingSMART community; the product was formerly known as Bimsync. It federates IFC models from Revit, Archicad, Tekla, Vectorworks and others in the browser without plugins, manages documents with ISO 19650 workflows and an audit trail, and runs issue management on BCF. It is priced per project with unlimited users.

About Catenda Hub (formerly bimsync) · Certification

How does BCF issue round-tripping work between Catenda Hub and my authoring tools?

PractitionerCatenda Hub (formerly bimsync)Interoperability

Catenda Hub supports BCF 2.1 and 3.0. When you create an issue in the Hub viewer it stores the viewpoint, camera, comment and selected element GUIDs. Opening the same issue in Solibri, BIMcollab or Revit through their BCF connectors restores that viewpoint and selection, and status or comment changes are written back to the Hub. Because the exchange relies on IFC GUIDs, models must be exported with stable GUIDs and consistent origin points, otherwise viewpoints will not align.

About Catenda Hub (formerly bimsync) · Certification

What automation options does Catenda Hub offer?

ExpertCatenda Hub (formerly bimsync)Automation

Catenda exposes a documented REST API and webhooks at developers.catenda.com, covering projects, models, documents, issues and users, so you can build integrations with quality, cost or planning tools. It also lists more than 30 ready integrations. In 2026 Catenda ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so AI agents such as Claude or ChatGPT can query and act on project data within the user's permissions. IDS requirement checking can be applied to uploaded IFC models to automate delivery validation.

Is Dalux free, and what is the difference between Dalux Box and Dalux BIM Viewer?

FoundationDalux BoxLicensing

Dalux BIM Viewer and Field Basic are free and allow unlimited project members to view federated models and drawings on desktop and mobile. Dalux Box is the paid document and model management product, the CDE, with Shared and Published areas, approval workflows, naming conventions and model validation; pricing is by quote from local sales and is not published. Dalux Field, InfraField, FM, Tender and Handover are further paid modules.

About Dalux Box · Certification

How does model validation in Dalux Box work?

PractitionerDalux BoxCoordination

When a model is uploaded, Dalux Box can run property checks against your project requirements, for example that every wall carries a fire rating, and hard and soft clash detection between disciplines. Results appear as issues in the viewer and can be exchanged as BCF. Automation re-runs the checks whenever a new version of the model is uploaded, so the validation status stays current without manual effort. This lets the CDE reject or flag models before they move into the Shared area.

About Dalux Box · Certification

How does Dalux Box map to ISO 19650 states?

ProfessionalDalux BoxStandards

Dalux Box provides explicit Shared and Published areas with approval workflows between them, an enforceable file naming convention and custom metadata for status and revision. WIP normally stays in each team's own environment, such as Revit worksharing or SharePoint, and the checked container is uploaded to Shared with a suitability code. Client authorisation moves it to Published. Version history and the audit trail provide the Archived record, and IFC and BCF keep the process technology-neutral, which is why it is accepted on public procurement in the Nordics.

Thinkproject notes it is one of the few German providers with formal proof of conformity. The attestation is different from the BSI Kitemark held by Asite, Autodesk and Procore, but it covers part 3, which most other certifications do not.

About Thinkproject (NextGen CDE) · Certification

What security certifications does Thinkproject hold and where is data hosted?

ProfessionalThinkproject (NextGen CDE)Deployment

Thinkproject's pricing page lists SOC 2, ISO 27001 and the German C5 cloud security attestation. How does 12d Synergy implement ISO 19650 folders and approvals?

Practitioner12d SynergyWorkflow

12d Synergy uses Job Templates to create every new project with the same structure, typically 01_WIP, 02_Shared, 03_Published and 04_Archived folders, together with naming conventions, templated documents and attributes. Its workflow engine drives approvals: different roles are assigned to each stage, attribute updates and file delivery can be automated, and files progress between folders as approvals are granted. Check-in/check-out locks a file to one user during WIP and keeps a full audit history of every version.

What is Newforma Konekt and how does it relate to Project Center and BIM Track?

FoundationNewforma Konekt (formerly BIM Track)Basics

Newforma Konekt is the cloud platform created when Newforma merged with BIM Track. It combines Newforma's project information management, filing project email, tracking RFIs, submittals and contract changes, with BIM Track's model coordination and BCF issue management. Newforma Project Center remains the on-premise product. Konekt is sold in three tiers, Info Track, BIM Track and CA Track, and connects to SharePoint, Autodesk Docs and Outlook rather than replacing them.

How do I coordinate IFC models and issues in Newforma Konekt?

PractitionerNewforma Konekt (formerly BIM Track)Coordination

Upload the discipline IFC files to a project folder and the 2D/3D viewer can turn on every model in the folder with one click to see the federated set. Issues are created against elements with viewpoints and tracked in the BIM Track module, which uses the BCF standard so issues can be imported from and exported to authoring and checking tools. Because issues live next to the RFIs and email in the same project record, the decision history behind a coordination change is traceable at closeout.

All four plans (Basics USD 260, Core USD 330, Complete USD 440 and Max USD 590 per user per year in 2026) include Revu 21, Studio and Bluebeam Cloud on up to three devices. Basics can join Studio Sessions and Projects but cannot create or host them; Core and above can host and manage Studio collaborations. Complete adds workflow automation tools, and Max adds Connected Studio Sessions with Revit and AI drawing reviews. Bluebeam University training is included with a subscription.

Can Bluebeam Studio replace a CDE?

ProfessionalBluebeam Cloud and StudioComparison

No. Studio Projects give centralised cloud storage with check-out and Sessions give real-time multi-user PDF review, which is excellent for design reviews and drawing comments, but Bluebeam does not manage ISO 19650 container states, validate naming, apply suitability codes, issue transmittals or federate IFC and BCF. Treat Bluebeam as the review layer connected to the CDE: publish drawings from Autodesk Docs, Procore or Kahua into a Session, run the review, then return the marked-up set to the CDE as a new revision.

What is Kahua and who typically buys it?

FoundationKahuaBasics

Kahua is a cloud project management information system (PMIS) that connects planning, funding, schedules, costs, approvals, documents and reporting for owners running capital programmes. Its Document Management Suite bundles document, drawing, RFI and submittal apps with standard workflows, and kBuilder lets administrators customise apps without code. It is FedRAMP authorised (Class C since 2022), SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and ISO 27001 certified, so US federal, state, healthcare and university owners are its main market. Pricing is by quote.

Is Kahua an ISO 19650 CDE?

ProfessionalKahuaComparison

Kahua describes itself as providing a common data environment for project stakeholders, but it is a document- and cost-centric PMIS rather than a model-centric ISO 19650 CDE. It manages documents, drawings and approvals with audit trails and can integrate with Bluebeam for reviews, but it has no native IFC federation or BCF workflow and no built-in ISO 19650 container states or naming validation. Owners on ISO 19650 appointments usually pair Kahua with a design CDE such as Autodesk Construction Cloud or ProjectWise.

What is missing when SharePoint is used as an ISO 19650 CDE?

ProfessionalMicrosoft SharePoint (as a non-specialist CDE)Standards

Native SharePoint has folders, metadata, versioning and permissions but no enforcement of the WIP, Shared, Published and Archived states with gated transitions, no validation of container names against a schema, no pre-built author, checker and approver roles with handover, and no way to restrict external parties to Shared and Published content only. It also cannot view IFC or BIM models or issue formal transmittals. Firms fill these gaps with Power Automate workflows, metadata templates and add-ons such as Flinker, or keep SharePoint for internal WIP and use a dedicated CDE for the Shared and Published states.

How would I architect SharePoint as the WIP environment alongside a project CDE?

ExpertMicrosoft SharePoint (as a non-specialist CDE)Deployment

Give each task team a SharePoint site or Teams channel as its WIP environment with a document library that carries ISO 19650 metadata columns (originator, volume, level, type, role, number, status, revision) and required-field validation. Use Power Automate to check the file name against the naming rule and to move or copy the checked container into the project CDE, for example Autodesk Docs, Dalux Box or Asite, via their APIs when the internal check is approved. Keep external users out of SharePoint entirely so the Shared and Published states exist only in the CDE. Retention policies in Microsoft 365 then provide the archive of the WIP history.
